Welcome from the Ambassador

Welcome to the website of the Australian Embassy, Addis Ababa. This newly established Embassy has responsibility for Australian’s relations with Ethiopia, the African Union and Djibouti.

The Embassy will be the platform for stronger engagements with Ethiopia, the second most populous country in Africa, and the African Union, the continental institution which takes responsibility for the economic , social and peace and security future of the continent. We also look forward to growing contacts with Djibouti, which is an important transport hub in the region and plays a strong role in supporting those who are undertaking anti-piracy activities in the Indian Ocean, including Australia.

Australia is currently supporting cooperation in the areas of Peace and Security, Maternal and Child Health, Human Resource Development, Food security and Agriculture, Mining good governance, and water and sanitation activities. We are encouraged that our mining companies are increasingly coming to the region to invest.

We hope this website will assist you in understanding more about Australia, its Government and people. Australia is an inspiring and unique country with a strong economy, a diverse and multicultural society, a wealth of natural wonders and a commitment to forging positive partnership with countries around the globe.
